DIVERS ALERT NETWORK (DAN)
Divers Alert Network (DAN) is an international non-profit medical and research organisation dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers. DAN exists to provide expert information and advice for the benefit of its members and the diving public, and its vision is to be the most recognised and trusted organisation worldwide in the fields of diver safety and emergency services, health, research, and education by its members, instructors, sponsors, and recreational diving community at large.
DAN provides emergency medical advice and assistance for underwater diving injuries and works to prevent injuries and to promote diving safety, promotes and supports underwater diving research and education, and strives to provide the most accurate, up-to-date and unbiased information on issues of common concern to the diving public.

DAN COURSES
DAN Diving First Responder -
This course is a comprehensive training package, allowing DAN Instructors to offer an integrated course that allows divers to learn the information and skills from several DAN Training Programs, at a significant savings of time, but without sacrificing any skills.
The DAN Diving First Responder course combines the skills and knowledge from these courses:
- Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
- Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
- First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Diving Emergency Specialist -
To recognise this commitment to dive safety, DAN has created a recognition program called Diving Emergency Specialist. The DES designation is a way to commend divers who have sought out the training they need to be prepared buddies and safer divers.
To earn the DAN Diving Emergency Specialist designation, divers must hold current certifications in:
- Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
Plus three of the following:
- Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (or equivalent)
- First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (or equivalent)
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED) (or equivalent)
- On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers (or equivalent)
- Medical Oxygen Rebreather (MO2R)
(Divers who did a DAN Diving First Responder Provider course, have the needed prerequisites as stated above.)
The diver must also hold:
- a rescue-level certification or higher with a dive training agency
- current CPR and first aid certifications (for example DAN BLS certification during the last 24 months).
